THREE HOUSES BURNED

OUTBREAK NEAR DUNEDIN Press Association DUNEDIN. Tuesday. A fire which completely gutted three houses occurred at Tomahawk, four miles from Dunedin, this morning. In the absence of a fire- engine neighbours and passers-by assisted in an attempt to extinguish the flames, but they were hopeless owing to the lack of fire-fighting equipment. The bulk of the furniture was removed undamaged, but the buildings themselves were totally destroyed. The cause of the outbreak is unknown.
