TRANSPORT APPEAL
UNLICENSED BUSES AT RACES SERIOUS COMPETITION , The recent decision of Mr. E. C. | Cutten, S.M., that buses unlicensed ! to carry on a service to races might provide special services to races is to be the subject of an appeal. The decision was given when a pro- ) secution against a bus-owner who put on special buses to run to the Takapuna races was dismissed. The No. 2 Licensing Authority. Devonport, will probably have the support of the Transport Board in securing a final decision on the position. At to-day’s meeting the board chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum was enpowered to act. In a report to the board concerning the recent Ellerslie races, the manager, Mr. A. E. Ford, stated that serious inroads were being made into the board’s revenue by unlicensed buses. On March 30 private buses made 101 trips from the city to the races, and 64 trips inwards. Varying fares from under Is to 2s were charged. The railways, tramways and board buses were capable of dealing with the traffic.
