OTAHUHU POLICE COURT

Mr. F. U. Levien, S.M.. presided at the monthly sitting of the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday, when a number of cases concerning motor regulations were dealt with. The absence of lights on bicycles and motor-cycles formed the basis of most of the charges and nominal penalties were enforced. ON LICENSED PREMISES John Barry refused to give the constable his name till threatened with arrest, and persisted in saying that he only wanted a match, when he was found on licenced premises after hours. He eventually said that he was trying to get his bicycle. The licensee could not account for his presence. He was not drinking: In ordering Barry to pay court costs 10s, the magistrate said that it was not the usual case of drinking after hours. DANGEROUS DRIVING A fine of £3 and costs totalling £1 were imposed on C. E. Beddows for failing to drive a car on the left of the road, thereby striking a boy on a bicycle. For defendant. Mr. Holmden stated that Beddows had since provided the boy with a new bicycle, and at the time of the accident had provided medical attention for him. J. E. Richardson persisted in increasing his speed when Traffic Inspector Fletcher attempted to overtake him on two or three occasions. He was fined £2 and court costs 12s. Stanley Alfred Lack operated two motor-lorries, but only had one heavy licence. He was debited with £ 3 and court costs 10s.
