INCREASING MEMBERSHIP

The membership of the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association has increased from 612 to 912 in the past four years. This is stated in the annual report to be presented at the annual meeting on Tuesday, April 30.

Objection is made to the Government issue of artificial limbs owing to the stipulation that although 15 per cent, of amputees may select limbs other than those made by the contractors, all limbs must be fitted by the contractors. Reviewing the preparation of cases for the War Pensions Appeal Board for the year ended March 31 last, the report stated that 121 cases were upheld, 3L were dismissed and 25 were deferred. _ _ Collections for the. Poppy Day kuna realised £1.400 and £2BO was given to the Veterans’ Home. Of tne. balance of £1,120. £865 was handed to local bodies for £1 for £1 subsidies on the employment of returned soldiers. The remainder was distributed by the trustees in 144 grants to deserving cases, 186 subsidies for work, Ij fares to places'of employment, and 15 cases of work for partly-disabled men.
