NORTHCOTE PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE SOCIAL AFTERNOON The tenth anniversary of the Northcote Women’s Progressive League, which took the form of a social afternoon, was held in' the Parish Hall on Thursday, and was presided over by Airs. AlcLaughlin. After the business was concluded the following contributed to a musical prograimme: Misses George, piano duet; Aliss Johnston (London), recitation and song; Miss Peace, song, and Mrs. May, recitation. All the performers were heartily encored and accorded a unanimous vote of thanks. Afternoon tea brought a very pleasant afternoon to a close.' Apologies were received from Mrs. Campbell (Alayoress), Airs. Williamson 'Mayoress of Takapuna), Mesdames Gordon. Black, Axford, Brown, Lee, McGrath, and Righton. Among the visitors present were, members of the Civic League, Victoria League, Philanthropic Society, Benevolent Society and Birkdale Ladies’ Institute. FISH CURRY Ingredients required; A quarter of a pound of butter, three fair-sized onions (white if procurable), two ablespoons of curry powder, two tomatoes, three tablespoons of vinegar, 3 one and a-half talbespoons of sugar, | and salt to taste. Fry the onions unit they are a light brown colour, add he curry powder, fry the tomatoes 100, then add the fish. A large tin of :;resh herrings is a suggestion, and 5 makes an appetising dish.
