DRIVER CHARGED
SEQUEL TO DEATH OF CHILD Faced with a charge of having negligently driven a motor-van along Dominion Road on February 16, thereby causing the death of ari infant, George Summers, aged two years, son of Mr. Richard H. Summers, of Jellicoe Avenue, Mount Roskill, Hector Robert Somerville appeared at the Police Court yesterday. He was represented by Mr. McVeagh, and pleaded not guilty. Medical evidence stated the cause of death was shock and head injuries. Somerville said when driving toward the terminus from Mount Albert Road h® rai. into a small boy who was wheeling a trolley across the road. He thought the i>oy rushed out of the gateway and acrc-se *-he road. He found he had hit and on getting out of the van saw th.% <£iiJd. He carried him into a shop and s*a.r>g the doctor, who ordered the child s to thf* hospital. Somerville estimate-* Lis speed at from 12 to 15 miles a*' Accused was committed vs Zi** Supreme Court, bail being allowed.
