LONG STANDING CLAIM
TAKAPUNA’S FORMER ENGINEER QUESTION OF AGREEMENT An echo of the days when, municipally, Takapuna was in swaddling clothes, was heard at last evening’s meeting of the Borough Council. Acting on behalf of Mr. Lockie Gannon, who for some few years after the creation of the borough acted as its consulting engineer, a firm of solicitors wrote that they had been instructed to refer the council to Mr. Gannon’s offer made in July, 1914, and accepted under the council’s seal in January, 1915. In discussion, it was apparent that the alleged agreement had reference to the remuneration said to be due on account of drainage works :in the borough. The solicitors asked to be supplied with the cost of the scheme to date and the estimated amount still requiring to be done. Tho council resolved to reply that it had no record of an executed agreement such as claimed by the writers, but there was a record of a complete settlement of the matter years ago by the payment to Mr. Gannon of a sum of £2,220. However, if the claimants can produce the alleged agreement, the council expressed its willingness to reconsider the matter.
