NEW REGENT
“BROTHERLY LOVE” AND “WIND” There are three “-places a man has a natural dislike of visiting- ... a barber shop, hospital and prison, but Karl Dane and George K. Arthur had to go to all three places in the filming of “Brotherly Love,” the big comedy attraction at the New Regent Theatre this evening. In the opening scenes the famous funmakers are seen in a lady .barber shop. They next are in a hospital and finally meet again in a collegiate tentiaryA football game between rival prispns furnished the high-lights of the new laugh riot and Dane and Arthur, as baseball gladiators, battle for the honour of their “alma mater” and the hand of the warden’s pretty daughter. Jean Arthur (no relation to George) is the girl. The Mojave Desert was Lillian Gish’s home for several weeks during the filming of “The Wind,” her latest starring vehicle, which will be the second feature this evening. In almost every scene, Miss Gish faced a windstorm, : which usually blew sand directly into | her face. The dreaded “Northers” and i the sandstorms of the prairies are the background for almost every instant of action in the picture. All day long, week in and week out, the star faced wind, flying sand and constant discomforts. The new picture is a vivid filming of the Scarborough romance of the desert wind country, in which a woman’s soul is shown, as, under the lash of privation, the continual moan of the wind, and the hardships of a primitive land, it changes. Miss Gish’s role is that of a delicately reared Virginal girl suddenly thrust into the hardships -of the cattle country by the death of a relative. Lars Hanson, who played opposite her in “The Scarlet Letter,” plays the leading male role, and Victor Seastrom, who directed the Puritan romar#:e, directed the new story. In addition to Miss Gish and Mr. Hanson, the cast includes Montague Love, Dorothy Cummings. a hundred or more Western “types,” and others of note. Suitable incidental music has been arranged by Mr. Maurice Guttridge for the Regent Operatic Orchestra.
