NGATEA FARMERS MEET

NEW OFFICERS ELECTED The Ngatea branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at itt* annual meeting last evening reappointed Mr. J. Darlington president and Mr. F. H. Speedy secretary. Other officers appointed were: Vicepresidents, Messrs. C. W. Schultz and W. McDuff: auditor, Mr. W. Wylde; committee. Messrs. H. F. Louoh. J. Spence. R. Burke, R. Rowlings, G. Phillips and W. Phillips. The first Wednesday in the month at 8 p.m. was fixed for the regular meetings. The question of securing a farmer for the position of county councillor for the Ngatea riding was discussed at length, and when it appeared that no farmer had been nominated' and members could not suggest anyone, a motion was moved pledging support to Mr. M. Dent, storekeeper, of Ngatea. This lapsed for want of a seconder, members commending Mr. Dent’s capability for the position, but reiterating that farmers wanted a farmer. On it being mentioned that Mr. W. Mclnnes. farmer, of Ivaihene. contemplated standing, a motion was moved pledging support. This was altered to ask Mr. Mclnnes to stand and pledging support if he did. The meeting was reopened, .after being formally closed, to authorise the telegraphing of congratulations to Mr. H. M. Rush worth.
