Auctioneering firms report on stock sales held throughout the district during the past week as follow:
Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., —During the week we held sales at Fukekoiie (cattle aond pigs), Westfield, Waiuku, Kumeu, Helensville, Tuakau (cattle and pigs), and Wellsford, also two clearing sales. There were full yardings of cattle for the time of year, and practically a total clearance was effected at all centres. There were average entries of pigs at both Pukekohe and Tuakau, and values realised were similar to those ruling at Westfield. Best dairy cows and heifers made £l2 10s to £l6 10s; second grade, £3 10s to £ll 10s; others, £4 to £8 ss; empty young cows and heifers, £3 10s to £5; boner and store cows, £2 to £5; 18-months to two-year-old in-calf dairy heifers, £5 to £9 10s, according to quality; cows with calves, £7 to £9 10s; grown steers in forward condition, £9 10s to £lO 10s; three to four-year-old steers, £8 to £9 7s Od; two to three-year-old steers, £7 to £S; yearling to IS-months-old steers, £4 10s to £6 10s; well-bred heifer calves, £3 10s to £5 ss; steer calves, £2 10s to £4; mixed-sex calves, £2 to £3 10s; small calves, £1 5s to £1 17s; heavy bulls, £6 10s to £8 15s; soLind young herd bulls, £4 10s to £9 9s; other bulls, £3 to £4 ss; south-mouth ewes, in lamb, £1 6s to £1 10s; store wethers, £1 Ss to £1 10s 6d; store lambs, woolly and shorn, 17s to £1; fat steers, £lO 10s to £l3 15s; heavy prime fat cows and heifers, £S 10s to £lO 10s: lighter tat cows and heifers, £5 5s to £8 7s 6d.
New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.—Sales were held during the past week at Westfield, Ngatea, Whitford, Paeroa, and one dealing sale, with all classes of cattle selling at late rates. Dairy cows and heifers, close to profit, best, made £ll to £l4 10s; others, £7 lOs to £lO 10s; backward springers, £6 10s to £9 15s; aged cows and inferior heifers, £3 10s to £6 ss; bulls, £3 to £9 IQs, according to weight and quality; boner and store cows, £3 to £5 15s: weaner heifers, £1 10s to £3 3 ss; weaner steers, £2 10s to £4 ss; yearling to 18-months-old steers, £4 10s to £'s 15s; two to 2*-year steers, £6 to £6 17s Gd; three to 3*-year steers, £7 to £8 ss; four to 4*-year steers, £8 10s to £9 15s; grown steers, in forward condition, £lO to £lO 17s 6d.
BUTTER AND CHEESE Merchants report receipt of overseas cablegrams as follow: New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., from their London office, under date April 9: Butter, choice salted, 164 sto 1665. There is a better demand. Cheese, white, 87s to 88s; coloured, SBs to 90s. Market firm. Joseph Nathan, Ltd., from their London principals, Trengrove and Nathan, Ltd.: Butter, 1665. Cheese, white and coloured, 89s to 90s. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., from their London house, dated 10th inst.: Butter, New Zealand, 164 s to 1665; Australian, 158 s to 160 s. Cheese: New Zealand, white 88s to S9s, coloured 89s to 90s. SYDNEY PRODUCE PRICES SYDNEY, Wednesday. On the Sydney produce market to-day Tasmanian potatoes were quoted at £22 a ton. New Zealand onions were quoted at £ll. MINING NEWS OCCIDENTAL-UN A. —The manager reports: The second stope on the No. 2 reef is still in progress, and the country continues to look well, with silica blend and colours, and dabs of gold showing. Owing to a slight accident, the installation at McGregor’s battery of electric power has been temporarily delayed, but we hope to have ic completed at an early date, when crushing will commence.
