LICENSEE FINED
TWO GUESTS ALSO FINED LIQUOR EXPOSED FOR SALE “I served liquor, but I did not sell it,” said Edward Dane, licensee of the Kaiaua Hotel, at the Pukekohe Court yesterday, when charged with breaches of the Licensing Act. Dane was charged with selling liquor, keeping the premises open for the sale of liquor, and exposing the same for sale after closing hours. Sergeant J. T. Cowan said he visited the hotel on Sunday, March 3, and saw several men leaving the yard, one carrying something in a bag. Upon entering the premises he found two men at the bar, and glasses which had been drunk out of. The men said they had gone to the hotel to see the licensee’s son. The defendant, Dane, admitted having served liquor to the two men, but denied selling it. The other men had been refused liquor. On each of the two first charges he was ordered to pay 12s in costs, while on the charge of exposing liquor for sale Dane was fined £5, and ordered to pay 12s costs. The two men, Robert Prendergast and Francis Ferris, were, on a charge of being found on licensed premises, each fined £1 by Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M.. and ordered to pay 12s costs.
