RECORD SHIPPING
AUCKLAND HARBOUR GOES FORWARD COASTAL SHIPPING DECREASES A record for inward shipping was established by the Port of Auckland for the month of March. The number of vessels was 756, the gross tonnage 464.425, and the net tonnage j 278,681. This was reported, at yesterday’s meeting of the board, by the harbourmaster. Captain H. H. Sargeant. Mi. H. R. Mackenzie presided. The overseas vessels also created a record, numbering 37. of 294,27 S tons I gross and 156.971 tons net. The coastal shipping showed an increase of 11 vessels, 19.592 tons gross and 10.93 S tons net. but local coastal shipping showed a decrease of 14 vessels, 14.607 tons gross and 7.516 tons net. BOARD’S LOAN The raising of a further loau of £50.000. the tenth under the authority obtained in 1924. was discussed, and it was decided to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for permission to raise £50,000 for harbour works at 5i per cent, by a further issue of debentures under the 1921 Empowering Act. the currency of the loan to be 30 years aud the sinking funds to be L. per cent. The Finance Committee stated that £61.564 had been temporarily advanced from general account to loan account for the purpose of carrying on the construction of new works. REVENUE The ordinary revenue (Waitemata Harbour) for March was £34,257, mak ing £197,058 fot the half-year ended March 31. The increase for the month of March was £1.556 and the figures for six months show an increase of £7,396 over those of last year. It was decided to make a donation of £5 5s to the Poppy Day Fund, and to purchase and lay a wreath upon the Cenotaph on Anzac* Day.
