MORE MACHINE GUNS
INFANTRY WANTS TO BE REORGANISED VICKERS TO EACH COMPANY (From Our Resident Reporter) WELLINGTON, To-day. Reorganisation of the infantry units of the Dominion’s Territorial Force is now being embarked upon by the Higher Command. rj.ENERAL Headquarters has decided to bring the establishment of the force into line with the organisation in England. The principal difference is in the equipment of the force with machine-guns. Up to the present each battalion of the infantry regiments has been equipped with Lewis guns, every other section in the company being a Lewis gun section. This was on the theory that the Lewis gunners supported the advance of the infantry in the next section, and that these infantry then covered the advance of the Lewis guns with rifle fire. In future, however, there will be .. a company in each battalion equipi&d with Vickers machine-guns. Each half-section will constitute a machinegun detachment, and the war strength of the company will be equipped with 16 of these weapons.
