CREW’S QUARTERS ON MAUI POMARE CONDITION QUESTIONED The Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, has replied to the request of the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. W. Wallace, that an investigation be made into the report regarding the alleged cramped quarters on the Government’s motor-ship Maui Pomare, intimating that an inquiry will be held immediately. Mr. Wallace stated to-day that the conditions had been described to him as being very bad. This view, he said, had been confirmed by officials. There have been no further admissions to the emergency isolation hospital at “Cintra.” There are now 27 patients In residence there. With the exception of two of the Islanders, whose cases are regarded as serious, all the patients are progressing satisfactorily.
