MILFORD HOUSE GUTTED

PONSONBY OUTBREAK ALSO Shortly before eight o’clock last evening fire completely gutted a sixroomed dwelling in Audrey Road, Milford, the property of Mr. A. Fraser. When the Takapuna Fire Brigade arrived the flames had complete mastery of the situation and so the firefighters concentrated on saving the adjacent buildings. The nearest fire plug was in Kitchener Road, and over I,oooft of hose had to be run out to reach the outbreak on the beach below. After a strenuous fight the brigade succeeded in confining the outbreak to the house in which it occurred. The house was unoccupied at the time of the outbreak. The weatherboards of a large unoccupied house at 30 Picton Street, Ponsonby, owned by Mr. T. Whitfield, were slightly damaged by fire about 4.30 yesterday afternoon. The city fire brigade was successful in preventing the flames from spreading. The house is insured for £I,OOO in the Alliance Office. This morning at about nine o’clock a fire broke out in the cable under the Symonds Street footpath opposite the Maori War Memorial. The city fire brigade extinguished the outbreak.
