FOR WORLD PEACE
OBJECT OF GIRL GUIDE ORGANISATION A GROWING MOVEMENT It is the conviction of Miss M. K. Wilson that the Girl Guide movement is of great and increasing value, and that sooner or later it will be a force in the movement for world peace. Miss Wilson is a dfvisional commissioner of the movement, and hails from Ayrshire, Scotland. She has been on loan to Australia and New Zealand to keep these countries in touch with what is being done in England and to give help and guidance. Miss Wilson is entirely satisfied with the progress being made in New Zealand. GROWING INFLUENCE Speaking of the work in Great Britain, Miss Wilson states that there were no startling developments. It was steadily progressing on organised lines, and as its activities became more widely known the greater grew its sphere of influence. Speaking of the aims that guided the movement, Miss Wilson says that once they were understood very little was ever heard of the objections that were usually raised against it, such as that it tended to militarise the girls or that it took them out at nights. “At least,” she said, “they are better doing Guide work than spending all their spare time at cinemas. Guiding is really a great game for girls and grown-ups, but at the back of the game, often not realised at the time, are processes at work developing and disciplining them, from the highest in the movement to the lowest.” Miss Wilson also spoke of the internatonal aspect of the Girl Guide organisation. With such conferences as have been held from time to time must come a greater striving for world peace.
