Bishop Cherrington Suggests New Centre

IS PRESENCE WELCOMED? LETTER TO PARISHIONERS (From Our Otcn Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. That the centre of the Waikato diocese might be shifted from Hamilton was the suggestion, again put forward by Sishop Cherrington. MEETING of the supporters of the Bishop in the Cathedral parish was held last evening, about people attending. The Bishop, who is visiting Tara-, naki, wrote renewing his suggestion that they might move the centre of the diocese to another parish. “I think it ought to be made quita clear whether the people of Hamilton wish St. Peter’s to remain the cathedral or not. I thought the meeting last September had done so, but apparently the people think otherwise. It does seem to me that if St. Peter’s is to remain the cathedral and be efficient as such the Bishop’s help and presence should be demanded and welcomed as often as he is able to give It.” One speaker said that the Bishop had been virtually kept out of the cathedral except when he could demand to be there. The meeting chose nominees for the cathedral offices. The parishioners will meet next Wednesday.
