MR, HENRY JEFFRIES Mr. Henry Jeffries, who died at his home in Rose Road, Ponsonby, on Sunday, came to New Zealand at the age of" 17 and for some years engaged in farming at Blenheim with his brother. Later he entered the Civil Service and was postmaster at Helensville. Waipu. Mercer and lastly at Cambridge, where he served for nine years. Completing 40 years of service. Mr. Jeffries went in for farming at Waiuku for some years, but then removed to Auckland. He was a prominent member of the Masonic Order and was a well-known bowler. Mr. Jeffries is survived by his wife and three daughters. CAPTAIN HENRY MACNAB One of the best-known shipmasters of his day*. Captain I-lenry Mac Nab, has died at Wanganui. He was born in Scotland in 1554, and at the age of 14 joined the training ship Conway. After two years he became an apprentice in the City Line, later joining the firm of Patrick Henderson, which was engaged in carrying emigrants to New Zealand. Captain Mac Nab traded in the Burnr. Seas for about 18 years. He escort 1 King Theebau from Mandalay to Rangoon as a prisoner. Thirty-one years ago Captain Mac Nab settled in New Zealand, tie lived first in Taranaki and then at Nelson, finally settling at Wanganui.
