MASSEY COLLEGE
GOVERNMENT HELP PROMISED £87,000 WANTED WELLINGTON, Monday. (From Our Resident Reporter.) A deputation headed by Sir George Fowlds asked the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, for £ ST,OOO for the buildings required at Massey Agricultural College. Sir George Fowlds took occasion to declare that rumours that the land had cost too much had no foundation. Sir Joseph Ward spoke in strong approval of the college, and said the money would be provided. He did not want the council to rush the expenditure but to take it as required. He spoke of spreading it over two years. Sir George Fowlds expressed his satisfaction with the reply, and said it would be of tremendous advantage if they could call for tenders for both the refectory and other buildings together, and would expect a substantial saving in cost. Sir Joseph Ward agreed that if the tenders were satisfactory, the Government would make its grant.
