A Fine Bill

EVEN FIELDS ENGAGED Horses That Should Run Well 'THE autumn meeting- of the Avondale Jockey Club will be * brought to a close on the Avondale course to-morrow. Excellent acceptances were received for all eight events, and the racing promises to be every bit as good as on Saturday. It is expected that the track will once more be in the best of order, and favourable to fast times. “Early Bird’s” comprehensive review of the programme is given below. 11.30 HOBSONVILLE HURDLES Of £300; 2 miles Pouri . . . 10 12 This should be a much more interesting race than Potoanui Uar ” 10 s on Saturda Y* and a point to be remembered is that the Ramblin’ Kid 10 *5 distance is half a mile further, so that stamina must Clockwork . 912 enter into the discussions when analysing the first day’s Koniak .... 0 12 form. Then there is some new blood, in King's Guard, Boonierdav * o*o Rotoanui, Ramblin’ Kid, Kilburn, Boomerday, Pouri and Karamu * ft ft Karamu. and with Ivomak as probably the best of those Golden Wed- seen out the first day it is going to be a good race, ding .... 9 0 Probably the actual favourites will be: Komak and Kilburn 12.20 DOMINION HANDICAP Of £200; 7 furlongs Arihana ... Sea Cob is an improver, fid"" Eustace 710 Diamond and Loving Cup, Katuscha and Otranto ... 7 10 Queen ... 7 11 Measurer all went fair races the first day. Lord Hopetoun was disappointing, but Diamond Queen set a merry pace, and had she been given a breather might have finished better than fourth. Of those further down a good word can be said for Cat-i-mes, The Dansant and Liona. Best-backed on the totalisator may be: Archileen and Arihana. ] J NURSERY HANDICAP Of £250; 6 furlongs p e n ll tf ht ' ‘ ’ 7 I! The staying two-year-olds of the eight left in this Bennie * ' ’ 7 10 event will shine here, for the six furlongs with the long Royal Finance 7 ti straight at the end of it will bother most of them. GemMotere ... 7 0 light hangs on well, and he has much more weight Snow plane ..70 than he won with at Ellerslie last week. Pellette Suzanne 7 0 disappointed at Ellerslie and con do much better. Bennie wjll find the course to his liking, for he finishes well. Royal Finance is very speedy, although it remains to be seen how she will hang on in the straight. Motere has been galloping well since his Ellerslie defeats, and may improve now. The other three have little chance on their form to date. No doubt the public fancies will be: Gemlight and Motere 1 CQ WAITAKERE HANDICAP Of £250; 7 furlongs King Lu ... 911 This is a race full of possibilities, Cynthia N. . 7 0 Lorient 11. . 8 2 f or there is some promising material Y--‘ ’ 1 2 BtlUkins' 17 0 engaged. King Lu wan brilliantly sir Russel"*! 7 0 Good Boy ..70 on Saturday, but he may be reserved Whaka King 7 o for the big event. Lorient II will have his chance on this big course, and Hipo ran prominently on the opening day. Billikins showed up in the sprint, and the extra furlong may not trouble her greatly, for she is in the minimum. Good Boy is now taking on open country, but it is not over strong, and so too Is British King, who would stand a chance in the open six if reserved. Mithra and Sir Russell are likely sorts, but when all is summed up the public may be found plumping for: Lorient II and Hipo O4Q AUTUMN HANDICAP * U Of £500; 1 mile King Lu ... 8 12 With 11 horses in the principal race, those drawn Branson . . . S 7 near the inner will obtain a good advantage, for the E-l 1 8 4 pace is certain to be clapped on all the way. King Lu White Fang *. 8 3 is not badly treated, and if started will not lack friends, Stormy ... 8 2 for he seems to be as his best. Branson will be better In the Shade 7 fi served by the shorter journey, and will be one of the Ladv’s Bov 7 0 best supported. Flying Juliet reads well after the Weriday . . ! 7 o way she was travelling at the end of nine furlongs on Tidal .... 7 0 Saturday, and High Pitch, in being raised 111 b. is not harshly dealt with; on the contrary. White Fang will be more at home over the mile, and will take some heading off over the last bit. Stormy is a likely newcomer, and so too is In the Shade, who has a royal chance if he can be landed at the post fit and well. Eager Rose failed to show to advantage the first day, and Lady’s Boy appears to be taking on something too rich just yet; his party seem to have missed a chance in not paying up for the sprint. Wenday and Tidal have chances, but several of the others will be preferred to them. It should be a fine contest, and if fairly well drawn the bettors may go for: White Fang- and Flying Juliet 2 25 MOUNT EDEN HANDICAP Of £300; 6 furlongs L* a dy« Quex . 8 12 This field is most disappointing, for not only are ?*helone SlOll 7 4 there six left in, but the class is not what one would Value . ! ! ! 7 o expect of a sprint at this course. Lady Quex is a good Marble King 7 0 sort, and more vigorously handled over the final stages British King 7 0 on Saturday might have rewarded her supporters with a dividend. Subdivision would be hard to beat if he runs honestly, and he appeared to go kindly for Reed on Saturday. With this combination once more in evidence to-morrow it will be favourite. Chelone is racing sourly, and Value went well on Saturday. British King really put up a brilliant performance in the hack sprint the first day, and a repetition to-morrow will make him a hard horse to hold off. Marble King does not look to be racing with his last season’s dash, although the smaller field is in his favour. Favourites may be: Lady Quex and British King 4 MOUNT ROSKILL HANDICAP Of £250; 1 mile Air King ... 9 8 Unless they are speedy beginners Grand Tea . . 710 niTr.h- aioUY o o those drawn more than half-way Brampton ..73 black Maire 9 0 . . , „ , .. , _ - Bizarro ... 7 0 Respirator ..90 out are going to find it hard to get j utst ify ... Brilliant Light, Grand Tea, Brampton and Welkne. With so many in it, and without a preknowledge of the barrier positions it seems hopeless to attempt to make any sort of a forecast, but with good marbles the backers will not neglect: Black Maire and Grand Tea C Q MORNINGSIDE HANDICAP Of £250; 1 mile . Oliinemuri . . 812 Here again the luck of the draw Barometer ..SO Queen Arch . S 8 w ill also be in evidence. Ohine- s^,\ 1 ?- 1 lL?i meral,;l 5 X Wenday :‘: I 7 muri won so well the flrst da T from Sleepy sil ".IS Golden‘Krist 8 3 the extreme outside with 91b less Master Le Choucas 8 3 that she must be taken into con- O’Rorke ..80 Tidal . ... 8 3 sideration on this occasion too. for Y'y^ ra T a • • §- Jj MaSri Boy 1 L she seems to be at her very best. -Cicalas ..SO Queen Arch may be bothered at the start. She was left in the big race on Saturday and made a great effort to get up sixth, pretty close to the placed horses, and she could not have been more than four lengths away. Wenday is a possibility, for she finished strongly the other day after being badly placed in the middle stages. Le Choucas may improve on his run at Ellerslie, and it must not be forgotten that he won a double on this course 12 months ago. Glenstar, Maori Boy. King Emerald, Lunette. Master O’Rorke and Owairaka all possess good prospects, but when the final accounting has been done on the machine the favourites may be: Ohinemuri and Maori Boy
