CARNIVAL AT CAMBRIDGE
QUEEN COMPETITION HELD
For the past few weeks a queen carniYai has been in progress in Cambridge, the effort being made in aid of a new building for the Plunket Society rest room—to be erected on a central site offered by the Borough Council at a nominal rental.
There were three queen candidates: Miss Josie Thompson (farmers’ representative), Miss Ruth Souter (sports) and Miss Myra Hart (citizens’). The competition closed on Saturday with a floral fete, and gymkhana in Victoria Square, followed by a grand dance in the Leamington Hall. The sum aimed at was £6OO. but when the profits were counted in the evening it was found that the objecive had been more than doubled—thanks to the generous support of the public. Tho voting resulted ' -------- Farmers’ queen, Miss Josie Thompson. £505 9s 6d: Sports, Miss Ruth Souter, £492 10s: citizens, Miss Mjra Hart, £295 9s 4d: total, £1,293 Ss lOd.
