Postmaster Found Dead at Manurewa
BULLET IN HEAD EARLY MORNING DISCOVERY With a pea-rifle alongside, and a bullet wound in the head, the body of Allen Ray Jones was found in an outhouse of the Manurewa Poet Office this morning. When Mr. R. Penman, telephone operator at the post office, came on duty shortly after six o’clock, he noticed a stream of blood under the. door of the outbuildings. Summoning Mr. E. Harris, land agent, he tried the door but he was unable to open it. They communicated with Dr. C. Jenkins, on whose arrival the door was forced. The body of the postmaster was then found. Mr. Jones was about 40 years of age and single. He was under notice of transfer to the Shortland Street Post Office, and is reported to have been suffering from indifferent health for over a month. A licence to produce a firearm was issued to him only last week.
