MR. WALTON ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT EARLY WORKER FOR THE PLAINS NGATEA, To-day. It is reported that Mr. E. L. Walton, chairman of the Hauraki Plains Couaty Council, has announced his retirement from local body politics. x At a recent meeting of the Ngatea Farmers’ Union, when the news was discussed, it was suggested that Mr. Walton should be requested to rescind his decision. The union passed a resolution expressing appreciation of! Mr. Walton’s services and asking him not to retire. Mr. Walton qualified as a barrister and assisted in the formation of the Hauraki Plains County Council, beir.s appointed its first clerk in :i922. Later he was elected to the council to represent the Ngratea Riding and wai unanimously chosen as chairman. His policy has been to advocate cooperation between the Government and the settlers, and one result of it has been the liberal Government subsidy granted on the Plains roading and bridging schemes.
