“THE SPY” One of the finest mystery thrillers ever shown in Auckland is “The Spy,” which is still providing excitement to patrons of the Strand Theatre. The story of “The Spy” tells of a lame Russian banker, Max Haghi, who is head on an international spy service. In his employ is Sonia Barranikowa, who is set to trap Ho. 326 of the Government’s secret service. They fall in love. Haghi sets out to crush them, but after a series of nerve shattering happenings they escape. A bank is surrounded and the staff arrested, and eevntually Haghi is found to be a member of the secret service, who uses a clown’s garb to cloak his real profession. He is watched at the theatre, but shoots himself. Such is the story of Fritz Lang’s latest and greatest masterpiece of screen craft which has one of the most brilliant companies of famous stars ever assembled. Brilliant character acting is most noticeable throughout th epicture. A famous German actor named Rudolph Klein-Rogge is Haghi, Willy Fritsch is seen as Ho. 326, and Gerda Maurus d.s Sonia. The programme at the Strand also includes a number of shorter films, and special music by Eve Bentley’s orchestra.
