A ROYAL TIME
GEORGE WALLACE AT ST. JAMES Palaces and crown jewels are stirred up with pie-stalls and puns in George Wallace’s revue at the St. James Theatre this week, and George himself discards his flapping bags to wear ermine (nee coney) in “His Royal HighThe comedy revue. “His Royal Highness” is just the sort of thing that Wallace has found goes down well with his house. There is a farcical plot, but it does not matter much. The King-pin is Wallace himself, and the plot is only there to provide him with endless chances for practical joking, songs and jokes. He makes a butt of the more serious characters to the delight of the audience. Marie Nyman sings as nicely as ever and contributes spice to the show, while Marshall Crosby has one of those lusty voices that penetrates even to the gods. Maida Jones dances nicely with her partner, Jack Scott, new music is played by the Jazz Band, and the “Six Rascals” dance on and off in bewildering changes of colourful costumes.
