Saturday. i The Taranaki Trotting Club had a record fixture to-day. when the racing Y as tlle best yet seen in the butter district. ideal weather prevailed there was very large attendance, and the track was in capital order. Speculation showed £1,250 increase on the previous best, which was in 1928 when £13,777 was put through the machine, the figures to-day being Several accidents occurred during the day, but no serious injuries were recorded. Novice Handicap Benefice, a warm favourite for the Novice Handicap, was first out and first home, but the win was not too comfortable at the finish, being robbed of interest by Highland Derbv, who was putting in a determined challenge, falling forty yards from the post. Wild Derby began well and was hailed as the favourite at the half-mile, where Lady lvonne displaced the three-year-old, but crossing the top the latter lost her position and Benefice led into the straight from Wild Derby, Highland Derby, Lady Y'vonne, Nathaniel Jasper. Highland Derby collared , Uerby inside the distance but fell when giving Benefice trouble. Wild Derby getting second berth a length away. Six lengths back came Lady Yvonne, with Nathaniel a similar distance away fourth. Waitara Handicap Bingen Spiers was on his best behaviour and, beginning well. gave nothing a chance after half a mile was traversed. Octachord was the early l?*?, er ,- frorn Bingen Spiers, Haviland, \4 iia Downs and Leo Mauritius, who made up his handicap fast. Along the back Bingen Spiers shot to the front Haviland. Schoolmate was the pilot pus* ing the stand from High Sea and Great Delight, and at the half-mile p os » Carmel had gone to the front. Trust' worthy. Great Delight, High Sea and Cora Tacks all being handy. Great Delight moved forward ana led into the straight from Grandlight, Trustworthy, Cora Tacks and High Sea, but the leader went on to win easily front Grandlight was third. followed by High Sea. Cornelian. Trustworthy Wakefield (who struck trouble in the final circuit), and Explosion and Van Rich, which fell at the end ot a mile Driver Sewell escaping injury. Moturoa Handicap Dawdler, who was an odds-on favourite, made no bones about winning the Moturoa Handicap. H e aid not get a gouii run over me first two iurloiigs. but soon ran up behind Leo Mauritius, and when the latter stopped at the live-iurlong post the favourite scaled, away to the front and was never troubled to win by three lengths from Uur Nanny, who was always in the picture and beat the improving Taw* King by half a length lor second dividend. Bell Dial, after going away slow', finished last into fourth place, a head behind the third horse. Then came Bonanza (who was Avell favoured in some quarters) and Enawah. Inglewood Handicap The numerous backers of Mokanna. another hot pot, looked gloomy when he tailed to strike the trot in the Inglewood Handicap, and it was not till six furlongs were traversed that A. J. Corigan got him to go right. Up to this stage Wild Downs and Carwood were the leaders, with Laurier handy, but the latter broke in the straight and Car wood sailed along in front, going out of the straight well clear of Wild Downs, Alton Brook and Mokanna. Down the back Garwood went to pieces, Mokanna adn Alton Brook making for the home turn together. with Kolmar coming up last. A hundred yards from the post Mokanna and Alton Brook were doing their best, but the latter broke and the favourite won by a length, with Kolmar three lengths back third, followed by Laurier, Wild Downs and Audo Spray. Omata Handicap Gang Awa was a better favourite than El Direct and Bonniewah for the Omata Handicap, and duly landed, although Bonniewah, who looked like winning, was badly interfered with when Louie Dillon, Our Nancy and El Direct fell. Benefice and Oliver Sharpe led early, but both tangled and Louie Dillon shot away, followed by Bonniewah, Gang Awa, Bright Light and Black Ballin. Along the back Bright Light cleared out from Gang Awa. Louie Dillon and Bonniewah, where Louie Dillon fell, stopping Bonniewah. The trotter had a good lead into the straight, but Gang Awa finished gamely to win by a length, with the unlucky BonnieAvah three lengths back. Six lengths away were Black Ballin and Benefice. Farewell Handicap

The Farewell Handicap proved a great betting race, Ngahuia, Queen Elizabeth, and the Carmel- Trustworthy bracket being well supported in that order, Zella being next choice. Queen Elizabeth was first away to lead past the stand from Our Patch, Ngahuia, Trustworthy and Admiral Lock. Along the back Queen Elizabeth was in front from Trustworthy, Carmel. Ngahuia and Zella, but when the straight was reached the bracketed pair were together in the van, and Ngahuia and Zella together next. A great race ensued. Ngauhuia making a bold bid on the rails, when Carmel swerved across to Zella and the favourite was checked. Carmel went on to win by half a length from Zella, with tne favourite a similar distance away, followed by Gold Dial. Queen Elizabeth and Joy Bird. , A lengthy inquiry was held at tii conclusion of the race, when the committee found there had been accidental interference by the winner, and he w placed third.
