FINAL OF COMPETITION (From Our Own Correspondent) NGATEA, Saturday. The last match of the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association’s inter-club competition was played on Saturday when the Kopuarahi team beat Ngatea by five wickets and 56 runs in a oneinnings match, and thus drew even in. championship points with the Ngatea team. It was agreed that the playoff be in two one-innings games, the first to be at Ngatea on Saturday next and the final at. Kopuarahi on the following Saturday. Ngatea opened the batting and made 124 (Cornthwaite 21, Boyne 19, S. Phillips 17, R. Phillips 30). L. Candy, 4-53; Gill, 2-46; C. Lawrence, 1-10; R. Connors. 1-8. Kopuarahi batted cautiously until its opponent’s total was passed, then opened out and made 180 for six wickets. C. Lawrence made 51, H. Kerby 33, R. Green 16 and A. McMillan 14. The wickets fell to J. Gribble, 3-50; N. Boyne, 1.-17; and S. Phillips, 2-73. MATCHES AT WHANGAREI (Special to THE SUN) WHANGAREI, Sunday. A first-innings win over Nomads on Saturday practically assured the Onerahi Club of the Whangarei cricket champoinship. Nomads made 68 runs (Ryan 16. Grove 14). Onerahi registered 95 (Hewlett 30, Chitty 18, Mason 15). Collins, three for 5, and Agnew. three for 26, were the most successful bowlers. In the other matches, High School beat Hikurangi by 11 runs on the first innings, and Whangarei gained a similar victory over Y.M.C.A. by 55
