* NEW SEASON IN WAIPA
It is expected tha.t there will be seven senior, six junior and four or five third grade teams in the Waipa Rugby Union’s competitions this year. Championship fixtures will start next Saturday week, April 20. This much was indicated at last night’s annual meeting, presided over by Mr. F. Quin. The election of officers resulted: Patrons, Messrs. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., and L. G. Armstrong; president, Mr. F. Quin; vice-presidents, Messrs. F. Potts, W. G. Kay, W. H. Bell. W. G. Park, F. E. Loomb, J. T. Johnson and J. T. North; auditor, Mr. G. O. Jourdain; treasurer, Mr. A. A. Reese; secretary, Mr. H. T. Haselden; Management Committee, Messrs. R. L. Henderson, J. Haines, G. Jeffs, G. F. Reynolds, W. Whitton, F. Ticklepenny, J. Williams, W. M. Winter, and one each from other clubs affiliating; delegates to Waikato Union, Messrs. F. Quin and H. T. Haselden; hon. surgeons, Drs. Blundell,-Hiskens and Roberton. It was decided to adhere to the principle of one selector for ’each grade, and appointments were left to the Management Committee. AT MORRINSVILLE Officers for the year* were elected at a general meeting of the Te Puninga Football Club as folow: President, Mr. T. Roach; secretary, Mr. N. PI. Watson; committee, Messrs. D. F. Watson, N. H. Watson, J. Darlington, W. Dakers, T. Lynch; delegates to the Morrinsville Rugby Union, Messrs, Skiffington and C. Cates; coach, Mr. L. Cubis. THE TAURANGA UNION The Tauranga Rugby Union will open its season on April 20. The prospects for the new season are good, and th© Union will start the season with a credit balance of £l4. BAY OF ISLANDS REFEREES At the annual meeting of the Bajof Islands Rugby Referees’ Association held at Kaikohe, the following officers were elected:—President. Mr. L. J. Smith; vice-president. Mr. V. Cole; secretary and treasurer. Mr. Wm. J. Wbrthington: Executive Committee, president, vice-president, secretary, and Messrs. D. Finlayson, F. Hayward and R. Somerville; delegate to Bay of Islands Rugby Union. Mr. Wm. J. Worthington; delegate to North Auck, land Rugby Referees’ Union. Mr. Wm. J. AVorthington; resident Whangarei delegate, Mr. Geo. Wilding. Croquet SOUTH SUBURBAN MATCHES Following are the results of interclub matches played under the control of the South Suburban Croquet Association:— Grade A.—Pukekohe, 1,384; Buckland, 1,217; Waiuku, 1,173; Clevedon, 1,110; Manurewa, 1,018. Grade B.—Buckland, 924; Clevedon, 865; Pukekohe, 837; Papakura, 797; Mauku, 744; Manurewa, 710. The association will hold its second tournament on the Papakura lawns, commencing on Monday. Following is the draw: Grade A. —Section A: Mrs. Niel and Miss Niel v. Mesdames Jarvie and McEntee, Mesdames Graham and W. Stephens v. Gallaher and Robertson, Mesdames C. Munro and H. Munro v. Andrews and Bernasconi. Section B; Mesdames Bullock and Harnbrook v. Mrs. McCrae and Miss Ramsel, Leighton and partner v. McCullough and Bell, Forbes and Osborne v. Niel and Fenwick. Golf THAMES CLUB The Thames Golf Club will open its season on April 13, when the new lay-
out will be completed and ready for play. AUCKLAND LADIES’ CLUB The Auckland Ladies’ Golf Club opened its season yesterday, under perfect conditions. A Canadian foursome resulted: Mrs. Brittain and Miss Noakes. 94 —31, 63: Mrs. Miller and Miss W. Kent, 104 —36, 68; Mrs. Henry and Miss E. M. Upton. 85—14, 71. Following th© match the members were entertained at tea by the president, Mrs. T. S., Culling. GLENDOWIE LADIES’ CLUB The Glendowie Ladies’ Golf Club will open its season on Wednesday next with a medal competition. Athletics FRANKLIN SCHOOLS' SPORTS The cup for the most points in proportion to roll number, competed for at th© annual athletic sports of the Franklin Primary Schools’ Athletic Association, has been won by the Buckland School with an aggregate of 167 points. Pukekohe was second with 98 points, and Bombay third with 82. Swimming MORRINSVILLE CLUB The Morrinsville Swimming Club’s season’s trophies have been awarded as follow: Dickey Cup, B. Coombes; Gummer Cup (fastest time, 100yds), W. Ensor; Benge Cup (inter-house relay), Morrinsville Joinery Works; school relay cup, W. Ensor, P. Barker and I. Strand; encouragement of swimming cup, F. Jackson; M. Hanan, 2; Philpott medal (most improved girl under 9), N. Allatt; suburbs championships (Dicki© trophies), men, Fred Carter; women. Miss Gladys Billington; junior championship medal, Eric Torr.
