SAVED FROM GALLOWS

THREE MEN ACQUITTED JURY'S LONG RETIREMENT (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, Friday. After a retirement of 22 hours, a jury to-day acquitted two brothers named Littler and a third man, Callaghan, of Parkes, on a charge of having committed a capital offence against a girl. The accused were convicted at their first trial on November 1 and sentenced to death, but their appeal succeeded and a new trial was ordered. A fourth man, McCarroll, was acquitted at the first trial.
