FARM HAND FALLS

STOLE MONEY FROM EMPLOYER RESTITUTION ORDERED When Raymond Charles Fisher abstracted money from his employers’ clothes at Ngatea, he did not think retribution would follow so swiftly in his w r ake. Fisher, a farm labourer, was charged with stealing £ls from Frani cis Leonard at Ngatea on March 28. He was represented by Mr. Alan Smyth, and pleaded guilty to the theft | of £lO. Chief-Detective Hammond said acI cused had been engaged by Leonard as a farm hand, but had later found the position was filled when he arrived. He had left by service car for Auckland. Shortly after his departure Leonard had found £ls missing and had notified the police. Fisher was arrested on the car at Ellerslie, when £lO only was found in his possession. He said he had found it on the floor in the bedroom. Counsel for accused said Fisher had since admitted taking it from Mr. Leonard’s clothing, but only the £lO. He knew nothing of £ls, and the Leonards were not too sure themselves. Restitution would be made, and accused's father was in a position to get work for the youth. It was his first offence. Fisher was convicted and ordered to make £ls restitution, Mr. W. R_. McKean remarking that the extra £5 would be a lesson to him. He vas also admitted to probation for two ! years.
