INFECTIOUS DISEASES
MORE CASES REPORTED There was a slight Increase in the number of infectious diseases reported during March. Scarlet fever continues to head the list, and in the Auckland district there were 65 cases, one less than last month. Dysentery showed a big increase, and there was one case of tetanus. The detailed figures, with those for February shown in parentheses were: Scarlet fever, 65 (65); diphtheria, 37 (32); enteric fever, 20 (29); tuberculosis, 32 (37); influenza, 3 (S); pneumonia, 20 (14>; puerperal fever, 15 (12); poliomj’elitis, 4 (5); erysipelas, 11 (3); dysentery, 52 (27); hydatids, 1 ( —); food poisoning, 3 ( —) ; eclampsia, 1 ( —) ; tetanus, 1 ( —) ; ophthalmia neonatorum, 1 (4).
