I’M ALONE INQUIRY

COMMISSION MAY SIT CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) LONDON, Thursday. An American political correspondent says he understands that a commission will probably be appointed to deal with the compensation claims arising out of the sinking of the I’m Alone. On the commission there will be one representative each for Canada and the United States, under article 11 of the Liquor Convention Treaty of 1924, made between Britain and the United States, which provides that the high contracting parties may appoint representatives. Actually his Majesty signed the treaty for Britain with the United States on behalf of the whole Empire, because it was done before the 1926 Imperial Conference. But it is understood that it will be arranged that Canada shall appoint her own representative, Britain merely exercising a watching brief.
