(By HOUSEKEEPER) HOW TO CLEAN WINDOWS Remove stains and dust with soap and water; then apply rotten-stone, metal polish, or fuller’s earth, on a moistened rag. Dry with a soft cot- '■ ton cloth. PAINT Remove the dust with a vacuum cleaner, or a light brush and a pair of bellows, and clean soiled spots with a j sponge dipped in soap and water. Begin at the top of a wainscot and work downward, using soft soap and fuller’s earth. This is more rapidly and ; efficiently carried out by two people, ; on ® engaged in cleaning off the dust ; and dirt, and the other in drying the | paint with a linen cloth. LACQUERED ARTICLES Brush with hot water and soap, wipe, dry in a moderate heat, and finish with, a soft cloth. Avoid the use of pearlash .or soda, which may remove the lacquer. TO REMOVE MILDEW FROM LINEN Mix soft soap with an equal quantity of powdered starch, and half as much salt. Add the juice of a lemon and blend all well together. Lay the mixture on both sides of the stain with a painter’s brush, and leave the | articles on the grass day and night . till the mildew marks disappear.
