PLAIN AND FANCY DANCE
GAY FUNCTION AT BEACHLANDS The Beachlands Public Hall presented a gay appearance on Easter Saturday evening, on the occasion of the annual plain and fancy dress dance, organised by residents of the bays. There was an exceptionally large attendance, and the majority of the costumes were of a unique character, making the judging a difficult proposition. Miss E. Johnson, representing an Easter Egg, was awarded the first prize in the women’s section, and Mr. Gordon Bennett, as clothes props, gained the honours in the men’s section. The hall was lavishly decorated with a canopy of multi-coloured streamers, and masses of greenery around the walls, from which hung brilliantlycoloured oriental lanterns. Mr. T. Liddell acted as M.C.
The Frolic Orchestra led by Mrs. S. Brooke supplied the musical programme, which was much appreciated, and Mrs. Moverhill played a couple of extras. A prettily decorated marquee served as suppe.r room, and the tables carried masses of autumn blooms.
