LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY

CASUNG FOR ‘BIRD IN HAND” The Little Theatre Society is in the throes of its rehearsals with "Bird in Hand,” the play by John Drinkwater, to be presented by them at the Concert Chamber Town Hall, April 10, 11, 12, and 13. The producer tells of an interesting incident with regard to the decision of the society to start the year’s activities with display. Mr. Brampton had gone away for the week-end to decide definitely which of the three plays under consideration he w’as going to do first, but Monday still found him undecided. He was particularly anxious to do Drinkwater’s play, as he was anxious to introduce the new author for the opening of the season. The two characters, namely, Thomas and Mr. Blanquet, presented obstacles. "Wandering worriedly down Queen Street, Mr. Brampton met that wellknown Auckland player, Han Flood, who immediately started talking excitedly and enthusiastically about a performance that he had witnessed in Sydney the previous week, and said, ’’There is a part in it I would love to play.” Asked what the part was, he said "Blanquet, in ’Bird in Hand’, the best part in the comedy I have seen for years.” The result of that accidental meeting was the casting of Mr. Flood in that role.
