War Threat on Frontier
FIGHTING AMONG MOSLEM TRIBES May Invade British Territory (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press AssociationJ Heed. 10.42 a.ixi. DELHI, Monday. SERIOUS trouble is threatened on the north-west frontier of India owing to an outbreak of fighting between tribes of Sunnis and Shiahs. The former are orthodox Moslems, but the Shiahs are regarded as heretics.
feeling between the tribes culminated in war in 1927, when the Shiahs were heavily defeated and driven into British territory. The Shiahs are now attempting to regain their captured country. If a move is made to invade Sunni
territory widespread tribal fighting is certain. There is a great danger, however. that Sunnis may attack the Shiahs first. This would probably result in British territory being invaded. There is a big British column at Kohat in readiness, and airplanes are engaged in close reconnaissance.
