FIAT’S NEW VENTURE
5,000 CARS PRODUCTION j Increased activity of the Fiat Co. I in the German market is revealed by the announcement that the great Italian concern has formed, in conjunction with the Dresdner Bank, the N.S.U. Automobile A.G., of Heilbronne, the capital being 2,000,000 marks. The new company has taken over the plant of tho Neckarsulmer Kraft-' fahrzeuge A.G., in Heilbronne, where, under direct Fiat technical control, 4,000 to 5,000 cars will be produced annually and will be marketed by the Deutsche Fiat Automobilverkaufs A.G., of Berlin. In addition to this the Fiat Co. has secured a large share of the capital of N.S.U. Vereinigte Kraftfahrzuegwerke in Neckarsulm, for the production of spare parts for cars and motor cycles. INGENIOUS SEAT MOUNTING A drawback to the two-door sedan or coach is the fact that when passengers in the rear seat wish to get out, they have to press down the back of the front seat and then tilt the whole seat forward. A French motor-body builder has just brought out an ingenious de-
vice for making it easier for a passenger to move the seat, and to allow the maximum amount of room through which to pass. In this design the near front seat is mounted on four feet, three of which carry castors running on rails, while the fourth constitutes a vertical pivot, as shown in the illustration. The back of the seat is hinged and provided with a lever-arm coupled by a rod to an eye secured to the floor of the body. Consequently it will be seen that when the back of the seat is pulled forward to fold it downwards this action has the automatic effect of rotating the seat as a whole so as to provide the necessary space for entry into the rear part of the body. Such a contrivance should prove most popular in coaches.
