CARGO FROM LI VERPOOL.—The C. and D.. Line announces that the Port Dunedin is to sail from Liverpool on May 25 with general cargo to discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. CARGO FROM LONDON. —The C. and D. Line advises that the Valacia, instead of the Port Alma, will leave London on April 17 with general cargo to discharge at Lyttelton, Port duiimers, Bluff, aiid Timaru. TAIROA LEAVES COLON.—According to a cable message received by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, the Tairoa left Colon last Wednesday afternoon for New York, Boston, Halifax, and London. The vessel sailed from Wellington on March 3. CARGO FROM NEW YORK.—The C. and D. Line reports that the Port Auckland is to leave New York on April 20 with general cargo to discharge at Auckland. Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. CUMBERLAND AT LONDON.—Caoled news has been received' by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the: Fedei'al steamer Cumberland arrived at London on Saturday afternoon from Bluff She left Bluff on February IS. CORINTHIC AT SOUTHAMPTON.— The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company has been notified by cablegram that the Corinthic arrived at Southampton on Thursday morning from Wellington, en route to London. The vessel left Wellington on February 16. TAMAROA LEAVES HOME.—Cabled news has been received by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company that their liner Tamaroa left Southampton on Thursday afternoon for Auckland and Wellington. The vessel is due at Auckland on April 30. L. D. Nathan and Co. ■will act as the local agents. MELBOURNE PASSENGER SERVICE. —The Union Company’s intercolonial passenger, steamer Manuka is to leave Melbourne for Wellington direct to-mor-row. The vessel is due at Wellington on April S and she is to sail for Melbourne, via Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff, on April PORT DARWIN TO LOAD.—Now unloading cargo from London in Australia, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Darwin is due at Bluff on April 17 to commence loading in New Zealand. The vessel will also load at Lyttelton, Wanganui, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne and Auckland. She is scheduled to clear Auckland on May 8 for New York, Boston, Halifax and London. Heather, Roberton, Ltd., are the local agents.
PLUME IN PORT.—Yesterday afternoon the Vacuum Oil Company's tanker Plume arrived at Auckland from San Francisco and berthed at the "Western Wharf to unload 3,000 tons of bulk oil. The remainder of her oil will be discharged at Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She. sailed from San Francisco on March 9 and experienced strong head winds arid rough seas during the first two days from port. Afterwards the weather was generally fair. Captain F. Ramsay is in command and the following are the officers: —Chief, Mr. F. Hazel; second, Mr. F. Harrison; third, Mr. H. Morley; chief engineer, Mr. G. Thomson; second, Mr. F. Freeman: third, Mr. R. Grant: fourth, Mr. R. Innes; wireless operator, Mr. .T. McColl. The vessel is to resume her voyage at 4 o'clock this afternoon. KAHAU ROCKS LIGHTHOUSE. —According to a notice in the Gazette, the proposed lighthouse on the Kahau Rocks is expected to .be established toward the end of next month. The light will consist of an automatic unwatched flashing light with a red sector over the Kahau Rocks, showing one flash every 20 seconds. The site of the light is on the summit of a high limestone rock, known locally as the Honeycomb Rock, which is isolated on the foreshore at the highwater mark. The Kahau Rocks are 25 feet about the main high water spring tides. The largest and northernmost rock is 400 feet in length in a northbound direction, and is about SO feet in width. A caution Is given with the notice that the contour of the coastline is incorrectly shown on charts of the locality, and the bottom has been only partially examined. The exact position of the lighthouse is given as follow: Inshore from Kahau Rocks, at a position of 058 degrees 27.7 miles from Cape Palliser lighthouse. Lat. 41 degrees 22 minutes south, long., 175 degrees 49.45 minutes east (annroximately), on Admiralty Chart No. 2,528.
STOP-WORK MEETING —No work was done on the wharves this morning until 10 a.m., as the watei'siders held their usual monthly stop-work meeting. THE ARGYLLSHIRE. —The Scottish Shire Bine steamer Argyllshire, which left Wellington for London on March 9, is reported to have reached, Colon last Saturday. THE NORTHUMBERLAND. —En route from New Zealand to London, the Federal Line steamer Northumberland is reported to have reached Panama last Saturday. She was dispatched from Wellington. on March 9. CARGO FROM THE EAST—The local office of the Union Company advises that the Federal steamer Sussex is to leave Calcutta to-morrow, via Rangoon, Penang, Singapore and Samarang, for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton apd Dunedin. GOLDEN CLOUD SAILS SATURDAY. —Henderson and Macfarlane hope to dispatch the American steamer Golden Cloud from Auckland on -Saturday for Wellington and Dunedin to complete her discharge of Pacific Coast cargo. TAINUI FROM HOME.—The Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Tainui is scheduled to reach Wellington next Saturday with passengers, mail and cargo from London and Southampton. The cargo is for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She is expected at Auckland about April 12. TASMANIA TO COMPLETE.-—The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Tasmania is to leave Wellington for Napier, Gisborne and Auckland on Friday to complete loading. She is scheduled to leave Auckland for New York, Boston, Halifax and West Coast ports of Great Britain on April 13. ROTORUA AT COLON.—The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua is reported to have reached Colon last Saturday, en route from London to Auckland. The vessel has passengers and mail for New Zealand, and general merchandise for discharge at Auckland, Wellington and New Plymouth. She is due at Auckland on April 39. TRONGATE’S MOVEMENTS Now completing her discharge at Chelsea, the steamer Trongate docks on Friday for cleaning and painting. On Saturday she leaves Auckland for Westport for bunkers. Her future movements from Westport have not yet been announced. MATAKANA LEAVES LIVERPOOL.— Cable advice states that the Shaw. Savill and Albion steamei\ Matakana was dispatched from Liverpool last Saturday with general merchandise from West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttel- ! ton and Dnnedin. She is scheduled to reach Auckland on May 7. RARANGA TO RETURN —A. S. Paterson and Company advise that, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Raranga returns to Auckland on April 13 to continue her loading. She leaves again on April 1< for Wellington, where she completes loading and finally sails on April 24 for London and. West Coast ports of England, via Panama. PORT NAPIER TO BERTH—Efforts are being made to complete the discharge of her explosives at Motuihi this afternoon, so as to enable the C. and D. lane’s steamer Port Napier to come up to Auckland to-night. She will berth at at Queen’s Wharf to unload the local portion of her general cargo under the agency of the Farmers' Co-op. Auctioneering Company. CANADIAN WINNER LATE—Advice has been received by the local office of the Canadian National Steamships that the steamer Canadian "Winner leaves Dunedin to-day, and Wellington on Saturday for Napier and Auckland. She is due here on April 10, and it is hoped to dispatch her finally from this port two days later for New York, Boston and Montreal, via Panama. MATAROA LEAVES TO-MORROW. Further advice received from A. S Paterson and Company states that the Shaw, Sa\ill and Albion liner Mataroa now leaves Auckland at 5 p.m. to-morrow for Gisborne thence Wellington to fill up for sched uled to sail finally liom Wellington at daybreak on April lo for Southampton and London via Panama. ’
NEW UNION COMPANY BOATS. The Union Company has been notified by cablegram that a contract has been placed with Messrs. Cammell, Laird, Ltd., Birkenhead, for two up-to-date cargo steamers. They are to be of the followmg dimensions: Bead-weight, 3,400 tons; length 293 feet; beam, 46 feet; loaded di aught, IS feet. They are to steam 10 S no !i s o at , s< i a - They will be fitted with hand-fired furnaces for twin boilers. Provision will be made for installing a pulverised coal plant in each steamer, if desired later. The engines will be located right aft. Both vessels will have a single screw, and three masts, with four derricks for three holds of two compartments. They have been designed for the W est Coast coal trade, and for the carrying of general cargo on the coast. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE— The following vessels are expected to be within range of the undermentioned wireless stations to-night:— Auckland: Tutanekai, Tofua. Chatham Islands: Port Fremantle, Tairmf, Cambridge, Brockabeok. Wellington: Arahura. Xgaio, Maori, Wahine, Tamahine, Silver Shell, Kartiei, W estmoreland. Awarua: Makura. Tahiti, C. A. Larsen Canadian Winner, Karetu, Herminiu? Keelung. PORT OF QNEHUNGA—ARRIVALS YESTERDAY HAUTURU (noon), 270 tons. Pert from Ilokianga. The Rarawa is to sail for New Plymouth at four o’clock this afternoon and returns to port at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday. The Hauturu leaves for Raglan Kawlna, and Waikato Heads at 4 p.m’. this day, and arrives back at six o’clock on Friday morning.
