“SOLID GOLD”
£2 WATCH AND “CON” TRICK LABOURER FINED £3 The sight of a solid gold watch valued at £2 was too much for Andrew Hood during the Easter holidays. He took it. JfJOOD, a labourer, aged 32, appeared at the Police Court this morning charged with stealing a gold watch valued at £2, the property of one Martin Purcenn. He admitted the offence. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said Hood was drinking at an hotel, when Purcenn, a hawker, came in with a bag of jewellery. The contents were looked over by those in the bar. Hood said he could get a buyer in the next room for the £2 watch, and departed with it. He did not come back. The police were notified and Hoods wife returned the watch njs morning, so there was no actual loss. “There is nothing against Hood,” said the sub-inspector. ‘He is a respectable young man as far as we know.”
“Convicted and fined £3, in default 10 days’ imprisonment,” said Mr. W, R. McKean, S.M.
