COOPER’S GOOD PLAY

PUKEKOHE GOES DOWN Perhaps it is because of his keenness, but Cooper, of Ponsonby Club, is a handy-man cricketer. Ho did wonders for Suburban Association’s B team when it beat l’ukekohe Association by 112 runs on the first innings at the Domain yesterday. The first thing Cooper did was to bowl three l’ukekohe men at a cost of 26 runs only. In addition to that, ho was a busy fieldsman and caught out Lawrie, Pukekohe’s second-best scorer. Then, when Suburban B was at the wickets, Cooper scored 29 runs in really good style. Pukekohe was defeated mainly because it lacked players of any great experience. Drake (30). Lawrie (24). Gilmore (17) and Mulgan (15) were the best batsmen in the visitors’ first innings, which brought 122 runs. The second innings was not finished and was negligible. Bowlers who assisted Cooper were Stanley, the junior, who did well for his 3-56 average, and the brothers, C. and V. Williams, who had averages of 2-10 and 2-4 respective!}-. Suburban’s best batsman was Yates, who retired after scoring 57 in impressive fashion. Cooper followed him, and Dickson (29), Viscoe (28) and Vic Williams (27) also shone as batsmen. Near the end of the innings, Cartwright, for Pukekohe, found an effective length and made the best bowling average of the day, 3-17. The Pukekohe men fought valiantly but a strange wicket handicapped them a little. The city players were not troubled in any department. Details; PUKEKOHE First innings ROSE, b C.
