HOT EASTER AT HOME

TEN HOURS’ SUNSHINE DENSE FOG IN CHANNEL (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Saturday. Good Friday in Britain was marked by midsummer heat. There were 10 hours of sunshine throughout the country. Many shade temperatures were over 70 * degrees—a record for March. A British oflicial wireless message says that, while other parts of Britain were enjoying brilliant sunshine, a fogin the Channel on Thursday was so dense that the Southampton mail boat and passenger- ships were brought to a complete standstill. Several incoming liners were fogbound off the Isle of Wight and crossChannel steamers had to drop anchor and wait for several hours. The Faster traffic, in consequence, was considerably hampered. The fog cleared in the night and the augmented service of Channel steamers was able to proceed according to schedule yesterday morning.
