MATCH AT MARTON
TRICKY WICKET: SMALL SCORES
(From Our Own Correspondent) MARTON,
The absence of Chapman and Bettmgton from the Rangitikei team, which is playing an eleven led by li. M. McGirr, of Wellington, to-day and Alonday, is detracting from the'/interest in the fixture, although Tom Lowry strengthens the side. McGirr’s team includes Dempster, James- and Badcock, all of whom are “stars,” and the public patronage is the best-,which has been seen in Rangitikei. Rain fell yesterday, but an improvement in the weather, to-day enabled a ; start to be made late this afternoon. Rangitikei batted first on a sodden wicket, and was dismissed tor SS runs. Tom Lowry was caught when he had made four, and the rest of the side was soon in trouble to the .bowling of Rotherham, McGirr and Badcock. The former took six wickets foi\2o runs. Dempster and Foley were the opening batsmen for the visitors, but the former was clean-bowled before he had scored. The match will be. continued on Monday.
