H. Gaisford’s recent 'purchase in Melbourne —a bay colt by Nassau from Hikoia, by Demosthenes, from Ikon, by San Fran from Nymph—has arrived in the Dominion and has gone through to Oringi. Probably some time will elapse before the 125gns. colt will be brought in to receive his education. For Waipukurau Home Made and Atareria, who will represent L. Ivnapp’s establishment at Waipukurau. both being on terms with 11.11 in the Ladies’ Bracelet, were this week associated in a round on the plough at Awapuni, which was left behind in 1.40, Atareria having the advantage at the close. To Travel Callanmorc. who will accompany Tenure to the Wairarapa fixture to compete in the Railway Handicap, proved too good for Inflame over five furlongs at Awapuni in 1.5 2-5. The Lord Quex gelding will compete at Feilding and. should the showing merit it, he will be taken through to Waipukurau for the Hawke’s Bay fixture on Monday. After a Hack Cup
Red Fuchsia, a stable companion of ; Locarno and Elicit, who ran a good second over the battens in the Hack last week, will compete in the Hack j Cup at Feilding on Monday. The All j Red gelding did a strong working gallop when he covered a mile on the plough in 1.48 at Awapuni this week. Joining Up Additions to Awapuni teams are a four-year-old gelding by CallaghanMarshal Dawn, a two-year-old filly by Paper Money from Blue Lake, who has been accorded the name of Blue Paper, and a two-year-old filly called Nimble, by Lord Quex —Chancery. The firstnamed, who is destined for the hurdling branch, is in S. Watson’s stable, while the other pair are in Mrs. A. McDonald a establishment,

R. Waller has now taken over his Day Comet mare Aurora Borealis, who ran such an honest race in the Adderstone Handicap on the second day of the Manawatu autumn meeting. . The mare will next figure at Feilding, where she will contest the Onepuhi Hack Handicap. The same owner has Rangi Sarto back in the active ranks, the Sarto gelding looking very burly. Incidentally, J. Waller is giving that wonderful jumper. Frisco Jack, another opportunity to prove himself. The compact little fellow appears all right, outwardly at least.
Whangarei Notes Creation, who has not raced for some twelve months, is again visiting the Whangarei track. He is carrying plenty of the right condition. Together with Welcome Home and Exalted, Creation should make his presence felt in the local races. Sunny Morn, who has been on the easy list for some time, has resumed work again. He is very bright after his spell. The filly by Kilbroney from Dancing Doll has been broken in and is coming to hand very nicely. This filly is
j very shapely and should be ready I early. She is locally owned by Mr. | Cyril Powell. Judging by the number of nominations for the coming Whangarei meeting, which takes place on April 18 and 20, the gathering should be most successful. The decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs in granting the available permit for the coming meeting is sure to find favour with visiting owners, who look forward to their annual holiday in the Northern city. The course is in good order and nothing is being left undone to make the fixture a success. Quite a number of horses are doing steady work on the Kensington Park course. Jllingar, Just Quietly and Michael have been jumping well of late, 'The
off a trifle close to the initial obstacle, but his hurdling from then on left little to be desired. Trpilus (E. Shaw), Bonomel (W. Scobie), and Money Bag also schooled. Troilus and Bonomel jumped two hurdles, while Bonomel, whose showing was onlj' moderate, completed the round. After breakfast Kulrange (E. Shaw) gave an excellent display over a round of the hurdles. A particularly smart five furlongs was credited to Royal Saxon, who easily accounted for Moratorium over that distance in 1.2 3-5. It was a performance that suggested that Royal Saxon has lost none of his former brilliance, notwithstanding that he has been racing over middle distances since the spring. If he can begin well enough in the Great Easter he is not without a chance with 7.7. So far a .rider has not been engaged l'or the Saxby gelding. Louise was assisted by Countersign over the last five of her sevenfurlong gallop, and there was little between them at the end. The time, 1.32 1-5, was slow in comparison with the efforts of other performers. Beau Geste In Favour Nightmarch and Beau Geste were companions over seven furlongs, the last six taking 1.18. Neither were ridden out, and at the end Nightmarch led Beau Geste slightly. The support for Beau Geste has been so consistent since Tuesday that he is now actually equal favourite with Rapier for the Great Autumn, and he is so well at present that his prospects in the forthcoming race must be highly assessed. He has proved conclusively in recent races that he represents a high standard and on Tuesday backers are bound to call to mind his New Zealand Cup effort in November. Pie ran fourth to Oratrix, Rapier and Hoylake, and he is an infinitely better horse at present. Blue Metal and Miss Nightraid occupied 49 1-5 for their half-mile spu,rt, and over the same distance Poetess and Master Clarence recorded 49 4-5. Bernera, a member of Wilson’s string, showed plenty of speed over live furlongs, running that distance in 1.3 4-5. Splendid Effort Magna Charta surprised the touts by dashing over six furlongs in the fast time of 1.15. He was joined by Leader over the last half-mile, and though the two-year-old led Magna Charta by a length and a-lialf at the end there was no disgrace in his defeat, for he went very fast in the early stages. Magna Charta has not faced the starter for some time, but be has been paid up for in the Great Easter, so apparently his connections fancy his chance in that event. At his best the King John gelding is a smart galloper, but it is hard to expect him to finish in front of some of his wellseasoned rivals. Arrowmir and Mentone slipped over four furlongs in 50 3-5, and over five furlongs Briarthorne shaped to better advantage than Kentish Lady and Shipshape. On the plough A. Cutts worked several of his team, including Straightcourse, Disorder, Prickles, Quarterdeck and Hurly. Burly,
