EFFIGY NOT BURNED
POLICE CHIEF’S DENIAL DEMONSTRATION IN SYDNEY (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, Thursday. The Commissioner of Police officially states that no ballot papers and no effigy of Mr. Justice Lukin were burned last evening at the demonstration in Hyde Park by the striking timber workers. Some ruffians burned old newspapers in sacks. Mr- M. F. Bruxner, acting-Chief Secretary, has accepted this explanation. He says Jock Garden’s assurance that no burning would take place was faithfully kept.
