HIGH LEVEL OF ACTING IN ENGLAND
“T DO not think the general level of acting has ever been so high,” said Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson on the celebration of his 76th birthday in London rece.ntly. “What the stage to-day really lacks are outstanding figures such as used to dominate it in the past. The day of the actor-man-ager seems to be gone for good. “There is a lot of chatter to the effect that the cinema will eventually destroy the stage. I do not believe it. Throughout my life there have been people who said that something or other was going to be the ruin of the stage, and yet it is still a flourishing institution.”
