RETURNS FOR THE PAST YEAR »7. (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The customs duties collected at Christchurch during the financial year, 1928-29, show a decrease on those of the preceding year of £33,400, but for the March quarter, there is an increase this year of £28.800. Beer duty shows an increase for the financial year of £3,400. The customs duties were:—March, 929, £86,547 ISs; March, 1928, £94,980 10s- financial year, £1,050,375 11s; 1927-28. £1.983,800 6s. The beer duty in March, 1929. was £7,848; March, £86,762; 1927-28. £83,314 4s. The motor spirit tax collected • in March, 1929. was £23,882 10s; March. 1928. £5.674 6s; financial year, £130,257. The tyre tax for the financial year was £15,296 17s, against £6.814 last year.
