GIFT TO TAKAPUNA
MR. F. S. POTTER PRESENTS PARK AREA IN MIDDLE OF BOROUGH The Mayor of Takapuna. Mr. J. W. Williamson, received a letter yesterday from Mr. F. S. Potter, of Auckland, offering to present to the borough for a park and recreation an acre of land at the comer of Anzac Street and The Terrace. This is the second gift of a Park that has been made to Takapuna la^ e last few weeks. The gift is offered free of all expenses, save the bare cost of transfer, the only conditions being that the -and shall be kept open for all time and shall not be used for any purpose that of a recreation ground. Mr. potter desires that no buildings, except those necessary to a recreation ground, shall be built on it and that the counshall not lease it or mortgage it or & eek legislation to alter the terms of •■he gift.
The Borough Council held a special htee.ing last evening to consider the ofrer. The Mayor spoke of Mr. Potlers generosity and moved that the council’s appreciation be put on record and that the gift be accepted on Jhe conditions laid down. Mr. J. W. ***yden seconded the motion and it * carr ied unanimously. The area of land lies on the corner °PPosite St. George’s Church and. be,s perfectly level, is ideally suited lo * a park.
