GAOL FOR CAR THIEF

At the Hastings Magistrate’s Court Robert Turner, aged 19, pleaded guilty to unlawfully converting a motor-car valued at £350 to his own use. Accused and another man took the car from a private garage, drove it to Wellington, changing the number plates on the way, and abandoned it at Kaiwarra. Accused, who had given himself up, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment, followed by 12 months’ probation, and ordered to pay the car owner £2O, the cost of repairs.
