APPEAL FALLS FLAT
FAMINE-STRICKEN CHINA Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. Tho appeal in Wellington in aid of the China Famine Fund is not meeting with much response. Only £172 has been subscribed so far. At a meeting convened by the Mayor. Mr. G. A. Troup, a committee was appointed to collect subscriptions. It was decided to wait on the Government. One enthusiastic speaker thought the Prime Minister should be asked for £ 50,000, but this was at once strongly deprecated.
