MOTOR-CAR AFIRE

YOUTH VIEWS TANK WITH NAKED LIGHT EXCITEMENT AT GISBORNE Press Association GISBORNE. Tuesday. A youth who was filling a motor-car tank from a 45-gallon drum of benzine through a hose this evening used an acetylene lamp to look into the tank, with the result that in a few minutes the car was a mass of flames. In attempting to turn off the tap the owner of the car, Mr. C. Randall, was splashed with benzine, which caught fire. Tie was removed in an unconscious state to the hospital, where he was reported to be in a serious condition. The fire brigade was called out and soon after its arrival the benzine tank exploded, causing consternation among the crowd which had gathered. One motorist, in his hurry to leave, reversed gear and knocked down a small boy. The lad’s injuries, however. are believed to be not serious.
